Description

The Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the Maintenance Department while actively participating in equipment, facility, and infrastructure maintenance. This position ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment, utilities, buildings, grounds, vehicles, and supporting systems through effective planning, execution, and oversight of maintenance activities.

The Maintenance Supervisor provides technical leadership, develops maintenance personnel, drives preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and partners with Operations to maximize equipment reliability, uptime, and operational efficiency.

This role serves as a developmental pathway for future leadership opportunities by building proficiency in maintenance planning, budgeting, cost management, capital projects, safety, workforce development, vendor management, and communication, with potential advancement to Maintenance Manager.

Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance practices and manufacturing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, HVAC, and facility systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance principles.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience in manufacturing, packaging, agricultural processing, seed processing, or similar industrial operations.
  • Experience using CMMS software.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or reliability maintenance experience.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, and equipment operation experience.
Leadership & Team Development
  1. Supervise, direct, train, coach, and evaluate maintenance personnel.
  2. Establish work priorities and coordinate daily maintenance activities to support business objectives.
  3. Conduct employee training, performance evaluations, and corrective action processes as needed.
  4. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Maintenance & Reliability
  1. Oversee maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of production equipment, facility systems, utilities, rolling stock, and grounds.
  2. Develop, schedule, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  3. Investigate equipment failures and perform root cause analysis to reduce recurring issues and improve reliability.
  4. Ensure maintenance work orders are properly prioritized, documented, and completed in a timely manner.
  5. Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance uptime, efficiency, safety, and product quality.
  6. Respond to critical maintenance situations and provide technical support during equipment failures.
Planning & Asset Management
  1. Maintain maintenance records, equipment histories, and work order documentation.
  2. Manage maintenance inventories, spare parts, and critical replacement components.
  3. Assist in development and management of departmental budgets and -related expenditures.
  4. Coordinate and oversee activities performed by contractors, vendors, and service providers.
  5. Support capital projects, equipment installations, facility improvements, and process optimization initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
  1. Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and applicable codes.
  2. Support and enforce safety programs including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, confined space entry, fall protection, hot work permits, and contractor safety.
  3. Participate in facility safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action activities.
Performance Management
  1. Monitor and report departmental performance metrics, including:
  • Preventive Maintenance Completion Rate
  • Maintenance Labor Utilization
  • Maintenance Costs versus Budget
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
