Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision of UAW maintenance employees in the Spring Hill Paint Shop.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate skilled trades personnel; manage performance and communications.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions; implement immediate and long-term corrective actions; supervise PM activities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; maximize uptime and reliability.
  • Manage labor, equipment, inventory, and resources; ensure projects finish on time and within budget.
  • Support safety and quality objectives (SPQRCE) and enforce safety policies.

Maintenance Group Leader (Maintenance Supervisor)

Location: Spring Hill, TN

Department: Paint Shop Operations

Shift: Rotating Shifts Required

Schedule: Monday-Friday (1st, 2nd, or 3rd Shift) with overtime, weekends, holidays, and shutdown support as needed

Position Overview

The Maintenance Group Leader is responsible for the leadership and supervision of UAW maintenance employees supporting operations within the Spring Hill Paint Shop. This role provides technical and people leadership while ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and processes. The successful candidate will lead skilled trades employees, troubleshoot complex equipment issues, manage preventative maintenance activities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives while supporting Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE) objectives. This position requires the ongoing application and enforcement of National and Local UAW Agreements and the ability to make independent decisions within a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Labor Relations
  • Provide general leadership and supervision of UAW maintenance employees conducting business within the Spring Hill Paint Shop.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate skilled trades personnel.
  • Drive accountability through performance management, employee development, and effective communication.
  • Address performance concerns and conduct difficult conversations when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with National and Local UAW Agreements, company policies, and workplace standards.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
Maintenance & Technical Operations
  • Analyze and respond to daily manufacturing plans and adjust maintenance activities accordingly.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement both immediate and long-term corrective actions.
  • Perform and oversee preventative maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Supervise maintenance and construction projects to ensure completion within budget and timing requirements.
  • Manage labor, equipment, inventory, and other resources effectively.
  • Conduct equipment inspections, testing, and evaluations to maximize uptime and reliability.
Safety & Quality
  • Support and actively enforce corporate safety policies, initiatives, and housekeeping standards.
  • Promote and maintain a safe industrial work environment.
  • Support plant objectives related to Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in compliance with organizational standards and safety requirements.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify operational and technical issues and proactively develop solutions.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and other departments to resolve complex issues.
  • Utilize analytical and critical thinking skills to improve equipment performance and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
Work Site Description
  • Position is based in the Spring Hill Paint Shop supporting automotive manufacturing operations.
  • Industrial manufacturing environment that may be loud and not climate controlled.
  • Frequent interaction with production teams, skilled trades, engineering personnel, and plant leadership.
  • Fast-paced environment with competing priorities and changing production demands.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
  • Must be available for overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Typically expected to work approximately two weekends per month to support production demands.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Skilled trades certification, apprenticeship, or equivalent technical training preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of automotive manufacturing experience required.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing employee performance and resolving workplace conflicts.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
Required Technical Skills

  1. Experience reading and understanding electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical blueprints and schematics.
  2. Strong leadership experience managing people, addressing performance concerns, and resolving conflicts.
  3. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing equipment issues in a fast-paced automotive environment.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience supporting machine, assembly, paint, or facility operations.
