Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree, technical certification, or completed vocational training in Industrial Maintenance or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of shift maintenance technicians, allocating personnel to respond to production breakdowns and emergency work orders.
  • Coach, mentor, and evaluate direct reports, manage performance reviews, provide feedback, and implement training programs to upskill technicians.
  • Manage scheduling to ensure shift coverage, including vacations, holidays, and absences.
  • Onboard and train new hires on facility layout, asset histories, and specialized food processing equipment.
  • Execute PM and predictive maintenance schedules using the plant's CMMS software.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems, including PLCs and packaging lines.
  • Oversee utility systems critical to the facility (ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, steam, compressed air, wastewater).
  • Manage external contractors and vendors, auditing work for compliance with specs and blueprints.
  • Enforce GMPs and sanitary design principles to avoid cross-contamination; audit areas post-maintenance; maintain documentation for regulatory bodies (SQF, HACCP, FSMA).

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of skilled maintenance technicians within a high-volume food manufacturing facility. This role combines technical expertise with strong leadership to oversee the daily execution of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.

The supervisor is directly responsible for maximizing equipment reliability, minimizing production downtime, and ensuring full compliance with all OSHA, FDA, and Food Safety (SQF/HACCP) regulatory standards. This is a hands‑on floor role that partners closely with Operations and Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of shift maintenance technicians, allocating personnel to respond to production breakdowns and emergency work orders.
  • Coach, mentor, and evaluate direct reports, managing performance reviews, providing constructive feedback, and implementing training programs to upskill technicians.
  • Manage scheduling to ensure appropriate shift coverage, including planning for vacations, holidays, and unexpected operational absences.
  • Onboard and train new hires on facility layout, asset histories, and specialized food processing equipment.
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
  • Execute the Preventive Maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance schedules utilizing the plant's CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems, including PLCs and packaging lines.
  • Oversee utility systems critical to the facility, including ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, steam boilers, compressed air, and wastewater treatment.
  • Manage external contractors and specialized vendors, auditing completed work to ensure conformance to technical specs and plant blueprints.
Food Safety, Sanitation & Compliance
  • Enforce strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitary design principles to avoid cross‑contamination or biological hazards during repairs.
  • Audit work areas post‑maintenance to guarantee that tools, parts, and materials are completely removed, and that machinery is properly sanitized before handed back to production.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation for regulatory bodies, ensuring that all food safety‑related maintenance tasks align with SQF, HACCP, and FSMA standards.

Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • An Associate's degree, technical certification, or completed vocational training in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience Level

Minimum of 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant, with a strong preference for food, meat, or beverage production.
