Maintenance Supervisor

Employment Type: Full Time, Direct Hire

Location: Lena, IL

Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000 Annually

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the maintenance team and ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment, utilities, and facilities. This position oversees preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, coordinates emergency repairs, manages the maintenance backlog, and partners closely with Production to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.

The Maintenance Supervisor provides hands‑on leadership to maintenance technicians and the wastewater treatment team while ensuring compliance with company procedures, OSHA requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), food safety standards, and Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) requirements. This position also directly supervises all maintenance technicians and the wastewater treatment team and is responsible for work assignments, employee development, training, performance management, hiring support, and overall departmental accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise all maintenance technicians and the wastewater treatment team, including work assignments, coaching, training, performance management, and employee development.
• Plan, coordinate, and optimize preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and maintain production efficiency.
• Manage the maintenance work‑order backlog, prioritize repairs, track breakdown trends, and ensure timely completion and accurate CMMS documentation.
• Lead troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, PLC, automation, and facility systems.
• Establish and maintain effective maintenance standards, including field tours, pre‑shift meetings, visual management, work planning, and communication of instructions.
• Lead and support maintenance projects, including equipment specifications, technical evaluations, installation, commissioning, acceptance, preventive maintenance planning, and capital improvements.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA, LOTO, PPE, company safety procedures, and safe work practices, including work in automated and energized areas.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with food safety, sanitation, hygiene, quality, and environmental requirements; communicate food safety concerns to the Quality Department.
• Support regulatory compliance for plant equipment and installations and maintain required maintenance, inspection, calibration, and compliance records.
• Conduct safety inspections and proactively identify opportunities to improve equipment, processes, and facilities.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Work is performed primarily in a food manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to hot or cold temperatures, noise, vibration, and wet or humid conditions, with occasional chemical exposure.
• Required PPE must be worn in accordance with facility requirements.
• Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing stairs or ladders, with occasional squatting, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Schedule may vary based on operational needs and may include overtime, weekends, vacation coverage, and rotating on‑call responsibilities.

Required Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in food or dairy manufacturing.
• Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a maintenance team.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, PLC, automation, and industrial maintenance systems.
• Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, RCA, and reliability improvement.
• Working knowledge of CMMS, Microsoft Excel, LOTO, OSHA requirements, and industrial safety practices.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Ability to use basic shop mathematics, interpret blueprints and drawings, and use precision measuring instruments.
• Strong analytical, decision‑making, troubleshooting, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Dairy or cheese manufacturing experience.
• Five or more years of maintenance leadership experience.
• TIG/MIG welding experience and ability to train others.
• Experience with wastewater treatment systems.
• Experience with continuous improvement and reliability programs.
• Experience managing maintenance budgets, capital projects, and equipment installations.
• Experience with food safety and sanitation requirements in a manufacturing environment.
