Job Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor leads and oversees a team of maintenance technicians responsible for supporting manufacturing, chemical processing, and laboratory facility operations. The role balances hands‑on technical work with planning, prioritization, and people leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of production‑critical equipment and facility systems. The Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for maintenance execution impacting uptime, safety, regulatory compliance, and customer commitments.

Maintenance Planning & Execution
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign corrective and preventive maintenance activities based on safety, operational risk, and production impact.
  • Independently adjust work priorities and schedules to address emergent issues and downtime risks.
  • Perform hands‑on maintenance and repairs as required for complex issues, escalations, or coverage needs.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Enforce EHS protocols including LOTO, machine guarding, hot work, confined space entry, elevated work, HMIS/SDS, spill response, and first aid.
  • Ensure completion and documentation of inspections, PMs, and compliance‑related maintenance activities.
  • Stop work or shut down equipment as necessary to address safety or critical maintenance concerns.
  • Lead or facilitate maintenance‑specific safety meetings and participate in incident investigations.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Directly supervise a small team of Maintenance Technicians, providing day‑to‑day direction and support.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and complete formal performance evaluations.
  • Partner with Human Resources & Management on corrective action when required.
  • Onboard and train new maintenance technicians and identify ongoing skill development needs.
  • Plans work coverage, assigns on‑call responsibilities, and maintains accountability for work performed during extended operating hours.
Operational Support & Stakeholder Partnership
  • Support manufacturing, chemical processing, and laboratory facility systems including environmental controls such as water quality, temperature, and humidity.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and EHS to ensure reliable and compliant facility performance.
  • Maintain accountability for maintenance activities during extended operating hours, including off‑shift and weekend on‑call coverage.
Resource, Vendor & Systems Management
  • Approve overtime and manage labor resources to support critical maintenance work.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors and vendors; recommend vendor selection while managing scope, safety, and quality.
  • Track labor, materials, parts usage, and maintenance activities using CMMS and related systems.
Qualifications

Education Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred: Professional Certifications, Industrial Tech Degree

Experience Minimum Required: 8–10 years of progressive maintenance experience in manufacturing or chemical processing environments.

Preferred: Prior experience leading or supervising maintenance personnel strongly preferred.

Job Specific Skills Minimum Required:

  • Hands‑on technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, controls, pneumatic, plumbing, pump, valve, and building systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with CMMS, work order management, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Working knowledge of EHS protocols including LOTO, machine guarding, hot work, confined space entry, elevated work, HMIS/SDS, spill response, and first aid.

Job Specific Skills Preferred:

  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Electrical licensure or certification.
  • Experience with Management of Change protocols preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • HVAC troubleshooting experience.
Communication & Working Relationships

Internal External

  • Work continuously with hourly workforce, facility leadership team, maintenance team and senior management team.
  • Provide continuous support to facility maintenance team to ensure continued operation of equipment.

External

  • Work with OEM’s, Vendor, and Suppliers.
  • Contact vendors for outside support.

Supervision

# of Reports Direct: 5

Working Conditions
  • Ability to work in industrial manufacturing and laboratory environments.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, climbing, and working with tools and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to respond to maintenance emergencies, including participation in on‑call rotations.
