Job summary

CertainTeed Gypsum, part of Saint-Gobain Group, seeks an Engineering & Maintenance Manager to lead the plant's engineering and maintenance functions. You will drive reliability, oversee 24/7 operations, and champion safety, asset performance, and continuous improvement across teams.

You will guide capital projects, manage budgets, and develop leadership capability while partnering with Production, EHS, Quality, and Corporate Engineering to meet safety, quality, and business goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Automation/Controls) required.
  • 7+ years in industrial manufacturing with progressive responsibility in maintenance or engineering.
  • 3+ years of people leadership supervising engineers, supervisors or planners.
  • Hands-on preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance experience.
  • Strong RCA capability and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Experience managing capital and non-capital engineering projects, incl. installations and commissioning.

Engineering & Maintenance Manager - CertainTeed Gypsum

As the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will lead the engineering and maintenance function for a high-volume manufacturing plant, ensuring safe operations, strong equipment reliability, and continuous improvement. In this role, you will drive World Class Manufacturing (WCM) maintenance strategies, lead capital and reliability projects, and develop high-performing engineering and maintenance teams. You will partner closely with Production, EHS, Quality, and Corporate Engineering to support 24/7 operations, improve asset performance, and help deliver the plant's safety, quality, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas

  • Lead all engineering and maintenance activities with a strong focus on employee, contractor, and equipment safety
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, corporate, and site safety standards, including LOTO, permit-to-work, confined space, and contractor safety programs
  • Champion continuous improvement in safety systems, audits, and behavioral safety initiatives

Maintenance Strategy & Asset Reliability

  • Lead the maintenance organization to achieve high equipment reliability, availability, and technical performance
  • Implement and sustain World Class Manufacturing (WCM) and Professional Maintenance practices, including preventative, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and ensure effective, sustainable corrective actions
  • Lead capital and non-capital engineering projects from concept through execution and commissioning
  • Coordinate equipment installations, upgrades, automation, utilities, and infrastructure improvements
  • Manage projects to meet scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality requirements
  • Provide direct leadership to engineers, maintenance managers/supervisors, planners, and technical staff
  • Develop technical and leadership capability through coaching, training, and succession planning
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage maintenance and engineering budgets, including CAPEX projects, spare parts inventory, and operating costs
  • Optimize resource allocation to balance cost control with reliability and performance objectives

Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Production, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and Corporate Engineering teams to support plant objectives
  • Interface with vendors, OEMs, and contractors to support maintenance execution and engineering projects
  • Support site and corporate initiatives aligned with WCM and business strategy

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Automation/Controls, or related)
  • 7+ years experience in an industrial manufacturing environment with progressive responsibility in maintenance, reliability, or engineering roles
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience leading engineers, supervisors, planners, and technical staff
  • Hands-on experience with preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance systems
  • Proven capability in root cause analysis (RCA) and implementation of sustainable corrective actions
  • Experience managing capital and non-capital engineering projects, including equipment installation and commissioning
  • Working knowledge of CMMS systems, maintenance planning/scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
  • Strong understanding of industrial manufacturing equipment and systems (mechanical, electrical, and process)

Preferred

  • Experience working within World Class Manufacturing (WCM) or similar continuous improvement systems
  • Background in reliability improvement initiatives, autonomous maintenance, standard work, and 5S implementation
  • Knowledge of industrial safety systems, including LOTO, contractor safety, and permit-to-work programs
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical and mechanical safety standards (e.g. NEC, Arc-Flash awareness)
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration experience with Production, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain teams

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to work on-site in an industrial manufacturing environment supporting 24/7 operations
  • May require extended hours, weekend, or holiday work to support plant needs and critical projects
