Job summary

CertainTeed, a Saint-Gobain company, seeks a maintenance technician to keep the plant running safely and efficiently. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, read blueprints, and support continuous production.

This hands-on role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. You will work across varied systems, perform preventive maintenance, and document work in the CMMS.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment across the facility.
  • Inspect plant systems including saws, dryers, mixers, conveyors, and mills.
  • Repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems (air lines, solenoids, etc.).
  • Replace electrical components (110V, 240V, 3-phase).
  • Read blueprints and work orders to complete repairs accurately.
  • Fabricate and weld parts for repairs and improvements.
  • Prepare tools and parts in advance to complete jobs efficiently.
  • Follow safety procedures including NFPA 70E and SOPs.
  • Maintain housekeeping and report safety concerns.
  • Support maintenance tasks assigned by the Maintenance Team Leader.

Job description

This role is responsible for keeping the plant running safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure continuous operation of the facility. This is a hands-on position that requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

You’ll work across a variety of systems and equipment, diagnosing issues, making repairs, and supporting improvements that keep production moving. Success in this role comes from taking ownership of your work, staying organized, and consistently following safe operating procedures.

Safety is a core expectation. You will follow all plant safety rules, use proper PPE, and apply established procedures, including electrical safety standards. You’ll also help maintain a clean, organized work area and report any safety concerns immediately.

**Key Responsibilities**
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment across the facility
  • Inspect and service plant systems including saws, dryers, mixers, conveyors, and mills
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems (air lines, solenoids, etc.)

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to complete repairs accurately
  • Fabricate and weld parts for repairs, modifications, and equipment improvements
  • Prepare tools and parts in advance to complete jobs efficiently
  • Follow all safety procedures, including NFPA 70E and plant-specific SOPs
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure safe work areas
  • Communicate and report safety incidents or concerns to leadership
  • Support additional maintenance tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Team Leader

This role requires a self-motivated, dependable individual who can work both independently and as part of a team. You should be comfortable troubleshooting, making decisions in real time, and completing work with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of quality and safety.

The ideal candidate brings a strong mechanical and electrical foundation, along with the ability to read and apply technical information in a practical, hands-on environment. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, as this role regularly interfaces with operations, leadership, and other maintenance personnel.

**Key Requirements**
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver reliable, first-time quality results
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic control systems, including PLCs, control logic schematics, and instrumentation (preferred)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • General building maintenance skills, including minor electrical work, pipe fabrication, and facility repairs
  • Working knowledge of shop tools and basic construction tasks (metal framing, drywall, painting, concrete repair, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to layout, cut, and fit complex parts
  • Experience with mechanical systems such as hydraulics, ventilation, fuel systems, cooling systems, and HVAC (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
**Working Conditions**
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts in a manufacturing environment
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Work performed in an industrial setting with exposure to noise, dust, temperature changes, and other typical plant conditions
  • Must maintain reliable attendance and meet scheduling expectations
