Summary

This position is with the Maintenance and Repair (M&R) work unit, within the Facilities Management Services department at Erie VA Medical Center (VAMC). The incumbent supervises building maintenance, repairs, and installations across the medical center and related properties. The primary assignment is the main campus, with possible duties at other Erie VAMC clinics and administrative spaces.

Duties

• Supervise the M&R work unit, including various trades such as Mechanics, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electric, HVAC, etc.
• Manage budgets for repairs, projects, and maintenance contracts.
• Serve as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) ensuring compliance with policies.
• Develop and present plans for maintenance and renovation projects.
• Receive and execute work assignments, plan, track, and report progress.
• Authorize overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules.
• Plan preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce system failures.
• Coordinate utility shutdowns, including planning, requesting, and executing.
• Coordinate emergency repairs with Police and FMS Operations.

Schedule and Incentives

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.

Critical Skills Incentive: Not approved.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Pre-employment drug screening, background check, physical, and other conditions apply.
• Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program required.

Qualifications

Must demonstrate training or experience sufficient to perform the duties, supported by detailed resume descriptions. Rating based on OPM standards.

Screen-out element: Ability to Lead or Supervise, Equipment Repair, Blueprint Reading, and related skills.

Physical & Working Conditions

Work involves physical activities such as standing, stooping, lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, and exposure to hazardous conditions, extreme temperatures, and infectious diseases.
