Maintenance Supervisor

Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services is a robust, free-standing psychiatric hospital offering dedicated services to adolescents and adults from the surrounding Birmingham community. With an average census of 150 patients, Hill Crest features acute inpatient, residential, and group home settings.

Alabama Clinical Schools has been a behavioral healthcare provider in the Birmingham area for over 20 years. Our treatment services range from intensive residential treatment for males ages 9-18 to therapeutic foster care. Our RISE and Specialized Therapeutic Foster Care programs for boys are the only programs of their kind in the State of Alabama. Our mission is simple: to enrich the lives of at-risk youth and their families by delivering quality behavioral and educational services while fostering a safe transition to the community.

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join our team. This position is responsible for the oversight and daily operations of the Facilities Maintenance department, ensuring a safe and functional physical environment for patients, employees, and visitors. The Director of Plant Operations maintains the facility grounds, inside and outside; completes routine plumbing, HVAC, and electrical maintenance; responds to building alarms and codes; ensures timely completion of all facility work orders; maintains facility safety; and ensures that the facility meets all codes and regulations as required by the State of Alabama, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; some college or trade school preferred
  • A minimum of 3-5 years general maintenance experience required; knowledge of building trades - plumbing, electric, flooring, carpentry, etc.
  • Certifications in various trades preferable (plumbing, HVAC - basic and advanced, journey license, use of fire extinguisher, and first aid)
  • Must have certifications/permits required by the State of Alabama to perform job duties
  • Demonstrated skill in planning, organizing, and achieving objectives
  • Recognized ability to lead and motivate staff
  • Knowledge of hospital and/or health care standards related to JCAHO and regulatory bodies, with the ability to educate staff on these issues
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, ability to assume responsibility, make appropriate decisions, and be discreet in business dealings
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and be available for on-call duties
  • Basic computer skills desirable
Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the most significant duties, but other work assignments may be assigned:

  • Plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance personnel
  • Assist in interviewing, selecting, and evaluating applicants
  • Assess training needs and coordinate safety and skills training
  • Estimate job requirements including staffing, equipment, and materials
  • Monitor work activity levels for proper staffing and resource allocation
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs to ensure quality standards
  • Manage contractors in assigned work areas
  • Procure parts and services
  • Oversee safe operation of mechanical and power-driven equipment
  • Maintain facility systems through preventive maintenance, repairs, and testing
  • Inspect maintenance equipment regularly
  • Respond to inquiries and resolve complaints from patients and staff
  • Maintain safety and health standards complying with all codes and regulations
Physical Demands
  • Work long hours, indoors or outdoors in sunlight
  • Remain focused and alert
  • Read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Visual and auditory acuity for safety and operational needs
  • Detect safety hazards
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting approximately 50 pounds and climbing ladders
