Job Description

Summary/Objective

Responsible for maintaining and upkeeping all assigned facilities/properties. Maintain the external and internal appearance of all homes/buildings within the I/DD department. Must be careful and thorough in working, cleaning, and repairing all premises, with a keen eye for detail and diligence. The Maintenance Specialist will assist with special projects and collaborate with other maintenance specialists as needed.

Essential Functions

STAFFING

In partnership with the Residential Management Team:

  • Assist with trash removal and recycling
  • Maintain interiors of all houses/programs, including cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.
  • Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, showers, and kitchens; restock disposable items like paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, etc.
  • Maintain outer grounds by watering plants, cleaning entrances, and ensuring no environmental hazards.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs, including painting
  • Report major damages and oversee minor repair timelines
  • Ensure property security by maintaining locks, windows, mechanical devices, and alarms
  • Undertake occasional/seasonal custodial/janitorial tasks such as shoveling snow, salting grounds, moving furniture/supplies, and landscaping
  • Ensure cleaning supplies and equipment are available

PROGRAM

In partnership with the Residence Management Team, ensure that the program meets all guidelines and regulations governing residential operations.

COMMUNICATION

In partnership with the Residential Management Team:

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and people supported
  • Establish positive relationships
  • Provide ongoing feedback to the director and other executive staff

OTHER

  • Provide a safe work environment for staff and people supported
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Attend in-service trainings and participate in continuing education to develop skills, applying learned skills to build staff skillsets

Competencies

  • Demonstrate excellence in providing culturally appropriate supports using a person-centered approach
  • Work with the team to develop plans promoting health, safety, and well-being of all supported individuals
  • Support direct support staff and individuals supported

Physical Demands

Ability to support individuals with disabilities physically, lift and assist in emergencies, and demonstrate necessary skills.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Must be able to travel to different program sites.

Required Education and Experience

  • Proven experience in a related role
  • Knowledge of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials
  • Basic landscaping and handyman skills
  • Attention to detail and conscientiousness

Education and Certification

  • HS Diploma required
  • AMAP and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are a plus
  • Must have a clean NYS Driver’s License
