DOTD-Engineering & Operations seeks a Maintenance position in Baton Rouge to perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across district facilities, including buildings, grounds, interiors, and exteriors. The role requires experience or training in maintenance trades, along with a Louisiana Class E driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience or training in building trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
  • Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.
  • Valid Louisiana Class E Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on district facilities, including buildings, grounds, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and HVAC systems.
  • Complete repairs involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work.
  • Maintain and repair equipment; tune-ups, replace worn parts, and adjust for safe operation.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles; conduct routine safety inspections and preventive maintenance checks.
  • Repair appliances by diagnosing issues, replacing components, and adjusting as needed.
  • Maintain maintenance and service records; prepare material requisitions and estimate labor and supplies.
  • Train and assist in developing new or lower-level employees.
  • Perform custodial duties, including cleaning and sanitizing buildings across the District 61 headquarters compound.
  • Strip and wax floors, shampoo carpets, and set up/break down conference rooms for meetings and training sessions.
  • Support emergency and disaster response operations and perform additional duties as assigned.

About this position:

This position is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across district facilities, including buildings, grounds, interiors, and exteriors. Duties include maintaining furniture, fixtures, and HVAC systems, as well as completing general repairs such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work. The role ensures facilities and equipment remain safe, functional, and well-maintained to support daily operations.

This position requires the applicant to possess a valid Louisiana Class "E" Driver's License
  • One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
