Christ the King Catholic Church in Flint is seeking a fill a Maintenance position for the parish.

Position summary

The Maintenance position supports the cleanliness, appearance, readiness, and security of Christthe King Catholic Church facilities. Responsibilities vary according to parish activities, seasonalneeds, and the condition of the building. The employee coordinates with parish staff andappropriate service providers as needed.

General cleaning and upkeep

• Check in as directed at the beginning of assigned work periods.
• Collect trash around the building and empty trash receptacles.
• Clean and restock bathrooms; monitor supplies to ensure adequate stock is available.
• Sweep and mop the hall, hallways, kitchen, bathrooms, and other applicable areas; vacuum floormats at least weekly, or more often during winter conditions.
• Clean and vacuum the sanctuary, sacristy, and office as needed.
• Coordinate with parish staff regarding specific cleaning and upkeep needs to maintain thechurch’s overall appearance and condition.

Building access and coordination

• Be available, as scheduled or arranged, to unlock doors for parish events and meetings and ensure doors are secured afterward.
• Help coordinate access for individuals or contractors handling larger maintenance matters, suchasplumbing, heating, or other building repairs.
• Check that the building is secure when completing assigned duties and report security concernsto the parish office.

Seasonal and periodic duties

• Replace clock batteries in the fall.
• Replace burned-out light bulbs or fixtures as appropriate and within assigned capabilities.
• Clean the baptistry of small debris and refill it when necessary.
• Turn on the heater in the women’s bathroom during cold weather, as appropriate.
• Sweep salt away from entrance doors to reduce tracking into the building.
• Check furnace filters approximately every three months; replace as needed and notify the parishoffice when additional filters should be ordered.
• Coordinate the movement of Christmas and Easter decorations from the Education Center approximately two weeks before the applicable celebration.
• Allow at least two weeks’ advance notice for special events requiring substantial hall setup orrearrangement.
• Check drains and grease traps for slow drainage and report concerns; monitor refrigerator andfreezer condition and report issues.

Scheduling and expectations

The timing and frequency of duties depend on the parish schedule, building usage, and seasonaldemands. Work priorities and any additional assignments should be coordinated with parishleadership or the parish office. Building security is an ongoing responsibility when the employee is on site or assigned to open or close the premises.
