Job Summary

Overview:
The Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance of mechanical equipment and/or operates heavy equipment associated with the operation of a fossil fuel power plant. This is an entry-level developmental position which receives technical guidance, training, and assignments from higher-level maintenance mechanics and supervisors. The role starts at $39.69 per hour and is eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and their family.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain mechanical equipment.
  2. Operate and maintain heavy equipment.
  3. Troubleshoot equipment and develop solutions to operational or performance issues.
  4. Maintain distributed control systems.
  5. Follow safety policies and procedures, including LOTO, chemical handling, heavy equipment safety, rotating machinery, and confined spaces.
  6. Experience in maintenance, repair, and installation of rotating equipment such as pumps, turbines, generators, fans, bearings, gaskets, couplings, and alignment.
  7. Knowledge of heat recovery steam generators, piping systems, and lubrication systems.
  8. Skills in pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, and machine alignment.
  9. Locate, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical defects.
  10. Support startup of major equipment like turbines, compressors, pumps, and motors.
  11. Seek opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
  12. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp, lift, and hear.
  13. Lift up to 50 pounds and work in adverse weather conditions with exposure to heat, noise, and hazards.
  14. Use computers, phones, radios, tools, and equipment.
  15. Climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights over 75 feet.
  16. Work in confined spaces and pass respirator fit tests.
  17. Wear personal protective equipment as required.
  18. Perform call-out maintenance and respond to alarms and noise changes.
  19. Perform first aid and CPR.
  20. Work overtime as needed.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and maintenance documents.
  • Good communication skills and teamwork.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred: experience with shop tools, welding, and heavy equipment operation.
