The Maintenance Mechanic II performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical systems and equipment for assigned facilities. The role may include more complex assignments involving multiple systems or cross-departmental interaction, requiring specialized knowledge in locksmith, HVAC, motors, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include repairing heating, lighting, cooling, plumbing, ventilation systems and equipment; installation and maintenance of motors; and specialized equipment.

This position is located at St. Vincent's Indianapolis Hospital - Indianapolis, IN.

Responsibilities
Mechanical System Maintenance and Repair – 80%
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs equipment such as steam valves, traps, coils, radiators, water softeners, unit heaters, water heaters, condensate and circulating pumps.
  • Services and repairs electric motors, heaters, coolers, refrigerators, and related equipment using various tools.
  • Maintains air compressors and air conditioning equipment.
  • Repairs appliances like fans, toasters, washing machines, and gasoline pumps; may also maintain motor vehicles.
  • Maintains water treatment systems, diagnosing malfunctions with test instruments and repairing components.
  • Fabricates, assembles, and tests parts such as pumps, valves, laboratory equipment, heaters, compressors, and fire equipment.
  • Operates electrical and pneumatic tools, pipe fitting, welding, hydraulic, and other heavy equipment.
  • Installs new/replacement equipment across various maintenance disciplines.
  • Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in boilers, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, and other systems.
  • Maintains locks, doors, and electronic access systems, managing key records and duplication.
Special Projects – 20%
  • Participates in meetings, training, and seminars to gather or convey information.
  • Assists in complex maintenance and repair projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must have one or more of the following:

  • Graduate of trade school with 2 years related experience.
  • 4 years related experience.
  • Other relevant education or experience.
