Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic at our site in Illinois. The role requires experience in general maintenance, electrical and hydraulic systems, and welding (TIG/MIG).

The incumbent will work on PMs, keep lines running, and support other teams while upholding GMP and safety standards. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED (preferred technical training) and be able to operate forklifts and other powered equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ years in industrial mechanical maintenance or 4 years' equivalent experience.
• Vocational or technical diploma/associate degree preferred.
• Ability to function in a team and interact with all levels of personnel and contractors.
• Ability to operate forklift, genie lift, scissor lift or other PITs.
• Read and follow work orders, write daily reports, and translate equipment manuals.

Responsibilities

• Complete daily PMs for assigned equipment.
• Keep production lines in good mechanical order.
• Aid other teams (Production, Quality) when needed.
• Follow GMPs and safety practices at all times.
• Set up, visually inspect, and test machinery and equipment.
• Listen for unusual sounds to diagnose problems and discuss with supervisors.
• Dismantle defective machines and install new or repaired parts.
• Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts.
• Maintain the physical structure of the establishment.
• Follow ISO 14001 procedures.
• Perform other duties as needed.
