Job summary

SONOCO CANADA in Columbia is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for first shift to troubleshoot, repair and maintain plant equipment. You will perform changeovers, rebuild conveyors, and document maintenance with CMMS.

Requirements include 2–4 years of experience, technical school or skilled trade accreditation, and welding/cutting/grinding proficiency. PLC knowledge is a plus and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Accreditation from a technical school or skilled trades program and 2–4 years of experience.
• Proficient in cutting, welding, grinding (Required).
• Familiar with mechanical prints, motors and controls; PLC programming is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts equipment as needed.
• Performs equipment changeovers according to production demands.
• Provides preventative maintenance to plant equipment.
• Rebuilds conveyors and sorting equipment.
• Evaluates/maintains hand tools for condition and compliance.
• Familiar with Mechanical Prints, knowledge of motors and controls, troubleshooting skills.
• PLC programming is a plus.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely.
• Continuous improvement of skills as outlined by the maintenance training matrix.
• Effective communication skills including the ability to receive and follow direction and provide feedback as requested, as well as with other maintenance employees.
• Works cooperatively with teammates as a natural work team.
• Work schedule is 40-48 hours/week plus overtime requirements.
• Accurate documentation of maintenance records using CMMS System.
• Ensures new machines are prepared for operation following protocols and procedures and perform regular technical testing to ensure their safety and efficiency.
• Collect data on machine operation and suggests actions to reduce machine downtime.
• Carry out additional duties as requested by supervisor.
