Job summary

Sonoco is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic/Machinist for Hanover, PA to support safe, efficient production. You will troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and motor systems, perform preventive maintenance, and respond quickly to equipment issues to ensure on-time shipments.

Ideal candidates will have industrial maintenance experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and familiarity with PLC troubleshooting. This role features a night shift with rotating schedules and a competitive pay rate plus

Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting hydraulic systems, pneumatic actuators, conveyors, and motors.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and industrial controls is a strong plus.
• Strong mechanical problem-solving abilities are required.
• Experience in an industrial environment or military maintenance is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hydraulic/pneumatic systems and conveyors.
• Perform preventive maintenance per CMMS schedule.
• Diagnose basic electrical/PLC faults from schematics.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Train and assist other maintenance staff on repairs and PMs.
• Collaborate with production to resolve equipment issues promptly.

While reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will perform proactive maintenance tasks, work with machining equipment, and respond quickly and effectively to maintenance concerns to ensure timely shipment of Sonoco products. Safety, quality, productivity, and a strong work ethic are core to our culture.What you will be doing:* Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, pneumatic actuators, conveyor networks, and three-phase motors.* Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections according to our CMMS schedule.* Maintaining and repairing utility and facility-related equipment as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor* Diagnose basic electrical and PLC faults using schematic blueprints and digital* Respond rapidly to emergency production line breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.* Assisting and training other maintenance personnel with repairs, preventive maintenance, and rebuilds* Collaborating closely with production and other departments to proactively resolve equipment issues* Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area* Managing small projects to maintain or upgrade equipment* Performing all duties in full support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policiesWe’d love to hear from you if:* You have experience in an industrial environment or relevant military experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment* strong mechanical aptitude with systematic troubleshooting abilities* Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial controls, and motor controls (strong plus)* Comfortable using mechanical lifts and ladders, and with kneeling, bending, and twisting; able to lift up to 50 lbs.* Work independently, prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and are willing to work an off-shift position with rotating shifts and overtime, including weekendsMisc.
