Job summary

The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join the Engineering Service. You will read blueprints, perform material takeoffs for project ordering, and execute a range of maintenance and repair tasks across hospital facilities.

The role requires diagnosing malfunctioning systems, using hand tools and test equipment, and coordinating with teams to complete work orders. A strong focus on safety, proper measurement, and precise execution is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience reading blueprints, sketches, and drawings.
• At least 1 year of experience as a commercial carpenter.
• Journeyman level knowledge to operate power tools (gasoline powered trowel, concrete vibrators, jackhammers, mixers, masonry saws).
• Ability to read and interpret instruction manuals, drawings, and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Process work assignments using own judgment and initiative.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and determine repairs and parts needed.
• Repair plumbing systems and building utilities, including distribution systems and fixtures.
• Perform inspections and initiate electronic work orders for deficiencies found.
