Job summary

MetalX LLC is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment across our processing facilities. The role includes completing required maintenance documentation and communicating status to the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Strong communication across maintenance, production, and leadership.
  • Own minimum required tools from provided list.
  • Welding and grinding experience.
  • Knowledge of conveyors, hydraulics, and PLCs.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends.

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and inspections.
  • Follow dress code and wear PPE as required.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Prepare documentation: work orders, PO requests, tool orders, daily log.
  • Inspect and repair conveyors, hydraulic and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Perform welding, grinding, and weld setup.
  • Set up, dismantle, reassemble machinery for maintenance.
  • Support housekeeping standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Description

The Maintenance Mechanic handles inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment. The position also requires completion and retention of required maintenance documentation and regular communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and/or lead person about equipment status and repair needs.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, including loaders, shears, grapples, skid steers, forklifts, and tractors/trailers. Use of 5-Y preferred.
  2. Perform daily preventive maintenance and routine equipment inspections as needed.
  3. Follow company dress code requirements and wear always needed personal protective equipment.
  4. Work independently with limited supervision while meeting performance and safety expectations.
  5. Prepare and keep required documentation, including work orders, purchase order requests, and tool orders and daily work log.
  6. Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, and PLC-controlled equipment.
  7. Perform welding, grinding, and weld setup in support of maintenance and repair activities.
  8. Set up, dismantle, and reassemble machinery as needed for maintenance and repair.
  9. Support and maintain housekeeping standards set forth by management within the work area.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements/Skills

  1. Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across maintenance, production, scale, shipping, and plant leadership teams.
  2. Demonstrated troubleshooting capability in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems in a scrap processing, industrial, or heavy-equipment environment.
  3. Possess minimum required tools from provided list.
  4. Use of proper PPE as required per job function.
  5. Experience with welding and grinding and fabricating parts.
  6. Knowledge of conveying systems, hydraulic systems, PLCs.
  7. Availability to work overtime, weekends, as business needs require.

Education/Experience

  1. High school diploma or GED needed; trade school training preferred.
  2. 3 to 5 years of experience in maintenance mechanic work.
  3. Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical fundamentals, and industrial troubleshooting required.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and work in active maintenance environments for extended periods.
  2. Ability to climb on and around mobile and stationary equipment as needed to inspect, troubleshoot, and support repairs.
  3. Ability to work safely in scrap recycling and industrial yard conditions, including uneven surfaces, outdoor exposure, and changing weather conditions.
