Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Division: Services - Facilities

Reports To: Lead Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Manhattan, NY

Salary: $18 - $21 per hour

Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic performs interior and exterior facility repairs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, window, and lock work at a family homeless shelter with children. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, performing repairs, and filling in for the Custodian/Driver as needed. The role requires flexible hours, including weekends and evenings. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Responsibilities

1. Escort outside contractors, inspectors, visitors, and accept deliveries as needed.
2. Perform repairs on building and grounds, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general maintenance.
3. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and plumbing issues, clear drain stoppages.
4. Service HVAC units, including cleaning and filter replacement.
5. Repair or replace damaged sheetrock, plaster, windows, doors, locks, flooring, and furniture.
6. Handle repairs related to client damages and room turnovers.
7. Complete preventative maintenance checklists as directed.
8. Assist with transfers, packing, and storing belongings as needed.
9. Perform custodial duties and operate agency vehicles in the absence of Custodian/Driver.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required, with proficiency in English and Math. Trade/Technical School training is a plus. At least two years of mechanical experience, including floor care equipment. Valid NYS Driver's License with a clean record.
