Job description

Join to apply for the Maintenance Mechanic role at City of Kansas City, MO.

Several full-time positions are available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Facilities Maintenance Division at 3515 NE 33rd Terrace, and the Natural Resources Management Division at 4600 E. 63rd St.

Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Responsibilities
Facilities Maintenance Division:
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain boilers, hot water tanks, steam lines, air compressors, water feed lines, plumbing fixtures, motors, air conditioning units, and related equipment.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs on freight elevators, wall switches, lamps, fixtures; locate and drill floor outlets for telephone and electrical installations.
  • Replace piping, valves, and worn parts on boilers; check oil burners; renew packing and bearings on sludge pumps.
  • Maintain and repair small combustion engines like mowers, generators, jackhammers, and chainsaws.
  • Repair and maintain machinery for municipal corrections facilities, including laundry and kitchen equipment.
  • Handle duties related to construction, patching, replacing, and painting surfaces such as streets, sidewalks, and parking lots; may involve stone, brick, or block wall repair.
  • Perform remodeling tasks including framing, drywall installation, electrical wiring, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Operate snow removal equipment, perform minor repairs, and maintain equipment fluids and parts.
  • Complete fire alarm and sprinkler system repairs and respond to alarms.
  • Perform welding repairs on buildings and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area.
  • Assist with event and facility setup, including movable walls, risers, fencing, and lighting installation.
  • Install, repair, and maintain equipment in convention facilities, such as floors and moveable walls.
  • Perform plumbing installation and repairs in City facilities.
  • Undertake other related duties as required.
Natural Resources Management:
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, fabrication, general maintenance, fencing, asphalt, concrete work, and graffiti removal.
  • Operate tractors, skid loaders, bucket trucks, and dump trucks.
  • Conduct lake maintenance and other departmental duties such as playground repairs and snow operations.
  • Use various power/manual tools and climb ladders as needed.
Qualifications

Requires two years of experience in building and mechanical repair in a relevant trade (HVAC, boilers, hydraulics, pumps, motors). A related technical education certificate or diploma can substitute for one year of experience. Valid State driver’s license required; may need to obtain a CDL Class A, B, or C. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
