Job summary

Gurwin Healthcare System in Commack, NY is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our campus team. The role covers HVAC, boilers, plumbing, electrical systems, and grounds maintenance across multiple buildings, with emphasis on reliability and safety.

The position requires working five shifts per week, including every other weekend (Sat/Sun) from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and may involve on-call snow removal and extended hours.

Qualifications

• Basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical knowledge.
• HVAC troubleshooting and boiler experience.
• Ability to diagnose building operational problems.
• Ability to work independently in a healthcare setting.
• Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Willingness to respond to emergencies and snow events.
• Comfort working around residents with dementia or behavioral challenges.
• Capable of bending, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and kneeling.
• Capable of using small hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair HVAC, boilers, plumbing, electrical systems, equipment, and grounds.
• Troubleshoot building problems and perform preventive maintenance.
• Complete work orders and maintenance documentation.
• Respond to emergencies and snow events, potentially working extended hours.
• Work around residents, including those with dementia and behavioral challenges.
• Follow fire/disaster procedures and facility safety requirements.
• Available for snow removal as needed and on call.
• Work with relatively little supervision.

• Capable of completing assigned tasks appropriately and without call back.
