Job summary

Gurwin Healthcare System in Commack, NY seeks a Maintenance Technician to support our independent living community, Fountaingate Gardens, with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general repairs. Gurwin Healthcare System is a full healthcare continuum providing extraordinary care to the Long Island community and beyond. Set primarily on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Gurwin's Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner Residences), our independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens), Island Nursing and Rehab Center, and two certified (CHHA) and licensed home care (LHCSA) agencies.

We are currently seeking a full-time Maintenance Technicianwho is able to work varied days and shifts in our independent living community, Fountaingate Gardens.

Key Responsibilities

• Knowledge of and compliance with company standards, policies, and procedures
• Maintain property standards for cleanliness, appearance, safety, and functionality
• Maintains a professional appearance at all times by practicing good personal hygiene and wearing a clean, presentable uniform.
• Respond to service requests in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner
• Flexibility to work overtime, on weekends, and participate in the emergency on-call rotation as dictated by business needs.
• Assist with preventative maintenance programs and scheduled inspections
• Conduct property walks and equipment audits; identify and address maintenance issues
• Safely operate hand and power tools
• Perform unit turnover activities, including cleaning, painting, and repairs
• Maintain consistent communication with the management team regarding timelines, priorities, and progress
• Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
• Participate in snow removal activities as directed by the management team

Technical Knowledge

Working knowledge and hands-on experience with:

• Various HVAC systems
• Plumbing (water heaters, drain clearing, fixture repair and replacement)
• Minor electrical repairs
• Appliance repair
• Drywall preparation and repair, painting, and basic carpentry

General understanding of building systems, including fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and central mechanical/HVAC systems (as applicable)

Understanding of and ability to assist with work order management and apartment make-ready processes

Ability to learn and effectively navigate assigned maintenance applications and related technologies

Development & Training

• Ongoing technical training
• Providing resources and support to help you successfully complete and maintain all necessary credentials, such as EPA type I, II & Universal, CPR, CPO, and standpipe certifications (NYC).
