Job Title: Millwright
Company: Quercus Forest Products
Quercus Forest Products is a contractor for Domtar. We provide a service to meet the expectations of Domtar in the art of chipping.
Purpose
The purpose of the millwright position is to maintain all chip mill mechanical and hydraulic systems to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operation.
Responsibilities
- Minimize downtime and maximize uptime by inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing mill systems.
- Assist chip mill personnel in increasing production through fabrication of various devices.
Specific Duties
- Monitor systems to troubleshoot by sight, sound, and touch.
- Lubricate systems according to schedule and record maintenance activities.
- Fabricate components such as chutes and conveyor sides from metal.
- Read and interpret prints, drawings, and manuals.
- Lock out equipment before maintenance.
- Lift and move heavy equipment using cranes and other tools.
- Replace bearings, sheaves, and cables as needed.
- Install and maintain chain and sprocket drive systems.
- Align and tension belt drive systems.
- Repair hydraulic systems and maintain conveyor systems.
- Assist with chipper knife changes.
- Communicate effectively with mill personnel.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to:
- Manage maintenance tasks throughout the mill.
- Climb into small, tight spaces for inspection and repair.
- Detect system issues through visual, auditory, and tactile cues.
- Climb ladders and steps up to 150 feet high.
- Lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Use two-way radios for communication.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of electrical, air, and hydraulic lockout procedures.
- Mechanical and hydraulic system principles.
- Troubleshooting techniques.
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Welding principles.
- Proper use of hand and measurement tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot systems by sight, sound, and touch.
- Ability to fabricate components without prints or drawings.
Training
Approximately one month of on-the-job training is required, provided the millwright has prior relevant experience.
