Job summary

ATI is seeking a Materials Coordinator to enhance operational efficiency by coordinating procurement, receiving, and storage of parts and materials for maintenance and production. You will partner with maintenance and procurement teams to ensure on-time availability and accurate inventory records.

The role emphasizes accurate part identification, stock optimization, and strong vendor relations, with a focus on safety and process improvements across storage areas and systems.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in supply chain management, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years in inventory control, materials coordination, maintenance, or a related field in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure required materials, spare parts, tools, and equipment are available to support operations and all maintenance activities.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Planner and maintenance team to identify, verify, kit, and stage parts and materials for planned maintenance activities.
  • Verify inventory accuracy, including part numbers, quantities, descriptions, and storage locations, through routine checks and cycle counts.
  • Verify all incoming parts and materials against purchase orders and packing slips for correct quantities, condition, and specifications.
  • Properly receive, label, store, and preserve parts and materials to protect them from weather, moisture, contamination, corrosion, and damage.
  • Maintain organized storage areas and ensure critical and sensitive spare parts are stored under appropriate conditions.
  • Monitor inventory levels, reorder points, critical spares, backorders, and open purchase orders to prevent material shortages and unnecessary excess inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records for materials received, issued, returned, transferred, and adjusted.
  • Communicate shortages, delivery delays, damaged materials, and discrepancies to the Maintenance Planner, Purchasing, vendors, and affected departments.
  • Coordinate shipping, receiving, vendor repairs, warranty returns, and repairable components.
  • Support shutdowns, outages, major repairs, and projects by ensuring required materials are verified, available, and staged in advance.
  • Track procurement and inventory-related expenses and support cost-control and inventory-optimization efforts.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with approved vendors and assist with resolving delivery, quality, invoice, and material discrepancies.
  • Ensure all procurement, receiving, storage, and inventory activities comply with company safety, quality, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized storeroom, receiving, staging, and material-storage area.
  • Identify and implement improvements in inventory control, storage, preservation, kitting, and material-handling processes.

Purpose

The Materials Coordinator plays a key role in operational efficiency and works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and Engineering to meet production needs and support improvements in inventory control processes. This position ensures that required materials, tools, parts, and equipment are procured from approved vendors and delivered on time.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure required materials, spare parts, tools, and equipment are available to support operations and all maintenance activities, including preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Planner and maintenance team to identify, verify, kit, and stage parts and materials for planned maintenance activities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with vendors and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple vendor relationships and prioritize tasks to meet operational requirements.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and resources to ensure materials are available as needed.
  • Understanding of budget tracking, cost control, and the financial impact of procurement decisions.
  • Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, packing slips, part numbers, equipment documentation, and maintenance work orders.
  • Experience supporting maintenance activities, including parts identification, kitting, staging, and coordination with planners and technicians.
  • Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle parts and materials in accordance with company safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple requests, and respond effectively to urgent maintenance and operational needs.
  • Basic computer proficiency, with strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude to manage inventory and equipment needs.
  • Proactively seeks ways to improve inventory control processes and reduce costs.
