Maintenance Manager

Location: Greater Indianapolis area

Reports To: Plant Manager

Team: 3 Direct Reports / Approximately 35 Indirect Reports

Work Arrangement: On-site

About the Opportunity

Our confidential client, a leading manufacturing company in Greater Indianapolis, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to direct and coordinate all maintenance activities at its facility.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for leading maintenance operations, improving equipment reliability, managing the maintenance budget, developing the maintenance team, and supporting the plant's production and continuous improvement objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong manufacturing background with experience in maintenance management, reliability-centered maintenance, CMMS, preventive/predictive maintenance, and leading teams in a fast-paced production environment.

Purpose

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all maintenance activities at the Greater Indianapolis facility.

Essential Functions
  • Lead, plan and execute all Maintenance operations.
  • Provide safe, reliable, ergonomic systems and machines.
  • Ensure that all personnel reporting to this position carry on with their responsibilities in a safe and professional manner.
  • Manage departmental budget, developing strategies to continually improve costs.
  • Ensure personnel in this area are kept at the proper competency level through development, apprenticeship, coaching, etc.
  • Ensure that all production-related equipment in the plant is maintained in a state of repair to achieve efficiency and effectiveness with proper uptime, yields and throughput.
  • Work with the Engineering department to ensure new equipment meets maintenance requirements.
  • Utilize Engineering resources when plant issues require a higher level of intervention.
  • Lead and manage a reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) system to ensure optimum equipment reliability and process effectiveness.
  • Audit preventative/predictive inspections and programs that support RCM to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement compliance.
  • Participate in team analysis and problem-solving activities related to major breakdowns.
  • Manage daily maintenance and shutdown activities within budgeted dollars, manning and material resources.
  • Standardize and maintain best workmanship practices across all lines.
  • Initiate studies and actions to overcome technical downtime problems, reduce waste and improve team performance.
  • Lead and manage the maintenance department toward a total preventive maintenance program to enhance the link between maintenance and production.
  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels to ensure matters of mutual concern are addressed and resolved.
  • Ensure employees are provided appropriate guidance, counseling, or recognition on matters related to job performance and absenteeism. Maintain constructive and candid relationships by addressing issues in a timely manner.
  • Direct and coordinate problem-solving activities and continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage spare parts to ensure they meet engineering standards and update engineering standards as required.
  • Reduce spare parts inventory through effective parts planning and preventive maintenance work orders.
  • Initiate CapEx plans to ensure that they meet business needs.
  • Apply RCM analysis to the commissioning of new plant equipment and other systems to ensure that new equipment is introduced into the production facility efficiently and with minimal disruption.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a technically related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt communication style to interact with a wide variety of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize objectives and targets to meet deadlines.
  • 7 to 10 years of manufacturing experience in the areas of engineering, supervision and production management.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience successfully supervising people in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with reliability-centered maintenance, including management of CMMS, PdM, PM and TPM.
  • Strong results-oriented, adaptable, standards-driven, developing, influential and informative competencies.
  • Dynamic individual who leads by example.
  • Flexible and understands there is more than one way to accomplish a goal.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and have the determination to succeed in a challenging environment.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work toward project objectives with minimal supervision.

  • Five years of maintenance management experience.
