Maintenance Manager
Location: Detroit, MI
Pay Rate: $37.94/hour
Schedule: Any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required

Position Overview
The Maintenance Manager will lead daily maintenance operations and continuous improvement activities for critical plant utility systems supporting manufacturing operations. This position will supervise skilled trades personnel and oversee the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of equipment including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment systems, wastewater equipment, and related automation and controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement of plant utility systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment, and wastewater equipment.
- Supervise skilled trades employees responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of critical utility systems.
- Manage preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Prioritize work orders, allocate manpower, and coordinate maintenance schedules.
- Manage contractors, vendors, and service providers while ensuring compliance with plant safety requirements.
- Maintain compliance with environmental regulations, including wastewater discharge permits, water treatment requirements, and air permits.
- Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and compliance records.
- Lead troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation, and process control issues.
- Support PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, instrumentation, and industrial automation systems.
- Develop preventive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Analyze equipment failures and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities.
- Support capital improvement projects from planning through installation and commissioning.
- Manage maintenance budgets, inventories, spare parts, and procurement activities.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems to manage work orders, preventive maintenance, labor utilization, and equipment history.
- Monitor maintenance and reliability metrics, including equipment uptime, MTTR, MTBF, PM compliance, utility consumption, and maintenance backlog.
- Lead daily Shop Floor Management meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, employee development, safety, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial facilities, or automotive operations.
- Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or team leadership experience leading skilled trades personnel.
- Experience supervising preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or automation systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, or mechanical drawings.
- Ability to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required to support plant operations.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of industrial Energy Center operations and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant processes.
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Environmental Technology, or a related technical field.
- Bachelor's degree is a plus.
- Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment is valuable.
