Overview

The Maintenance Manager will provide leadership and direction to the plant Maintenance and Project Management departments. Primary responsibilities include leading the Maintenance team in planning and performing repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment within the facility and overseeing on‑site CapEx project management.

Asset and Facility Maintenance

Responsible for eliminating causes of failure and ensuring full equipment life in coordination with daily maintenance completed by operating personnel. Accountable for managing the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) budget. The Maintenance Manager is the Progressive Maintenance (PM) system owner, including Maintenance Planning and Scheduling (MP&S), Preventive, Predictive, and Precision Maintenance Programs, Defect Handling (DH), and Break Down Analysis (BDA), and is accountable for the effectiveness of these systems. They provide support to the Autonomous Maintenance Owner and Systems.

CapEx Project Management

Working with Corporate Engineering, ensuring key projects are supported locally with direct oversight of contractor management, project timeline adherence, cost controls, equipment commissioning, and facilitation of punch‑list closure.

Responsibilities
  • Execute plant-specific vision and mission to ensure consistent operations, continuous improvement, and alignment with corporate vision, while maintaining a safe and controlled environment.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of Progressive Maintenance (PM) programs, owning Breakdown Analysis (BDA) and Defect Handling (DH) and ensuring program effectiveness.
  • Monitor the DH tracker for timely completion of corrective actions and BDAs, ensuring health checks are in place, systems are followed, and reporting metrics to the site Leadership Steering Team.
  • Lead projects redesigning and installing new processing and packaging assets on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Assess current Progressive Maintenance Systems (Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, Planned Maintenance Optimization, CMMS, Storeroom) and create an improvement plan prioritized by business needs, with clear objectives, dates, ownership, and KPI trends.
  • Train and coach on Lean Continuous Improvement processes and tools related to Progressive Maintenance, Defect Handling, Planning & Scheduling, Breakdown Analysis, and Autonomous Maintenance.
  • Analyze equipment and line downtime data to identify opportunities, leading cross‑functional teams to root‑cause and corrective action for improved reliability.
  • Define skill requirements for critical equipment, conduct gap assessment, and develop a prioritized training plan with cross‑functional support.
  • Manage buildings and grounds to adhere to GMP and maintain professional appearance.
  • Direct Maintenance and Engineering Team (PLC Technicians, Reliability Technicians, Mechanics, etc.) to meet plant objectives in safety, quality, cost, and customer service.
  • Provide technical support for efficient troubleshooting and maintenance repair to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime.
  • Collaborate with finance to create and execute a maintenance and CapEx budget, ensuring financial allocations are met and seeking cost‑saving measures.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels for standard replacement parts.
  • Participate in Steering Team to drive employee engagement, training, and development toward safety, quality, manufacturing, and productivity goals.
  • Plan and direct departmental work, managing performance of direct reports, recognition, discipline, feedback, complaints, and problem resolution.
  • Promote a safe and positive work environment, enforcing standards for food safety and quality per SQF/BRC and regulatory agencies (OSHA, FDA, EPA), ensuring employee training and compliance.
Qualifications / Education / Experience / Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of maintenance experience as a manager or supervisor in a manufacturing environment (food industry preferred). Demonstrable Project Management experience required.
  • Proven ability to work in a lean, system‑driven manufacturing environment, assessing processes, prioritizing gaps, creating improvement plans, training, coaching, monitoring with KPIs, and sustaining performance.
  • Experience utilizing and optimizing a CMMS (SAP experience preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of electrical, mechanical systems, PLCs, utilities, boilers.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and regulatory compliance guidelines; proficiency in AutoCAD or similar application (preferred).

  • Knowledge of food safety and food quality standards and regulations preferred. Experience with FDA and SQF/BRC a plus.
