Job summary

ST Specialty Foods, Inc. seeks a Plant Engineering and Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance, project management, and PM programs at the Kenosha facility. You will drive uptime, safety, and continuous improvement across operations.

Responsibilities include budgeting, cross-functional team leadership, Lean CI coaching, and ensuring GMP compliance while coordinating with engineering for capital projects and asset lifecycle management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related field is required.
  • 7+ years of maintenance management experience in manufacturing, food industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Lean, system-driven manufacturing with KPI tracking.
  • CMMS experience; SAP preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge; PLCs and boilers.
  • Ability to interpret technical and regulatory information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Maintenance and PM programs; own Breakdown Analysis and Defect Handling.
  • Guide Maintenance Planning & Scheduling and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage maintenance and CapEx budgets; control costs.
  • Direct cross-functional teams to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Ensure GMP, SQF/BRC alignment and safety compliance.
  • Provide technical support and mentor staff.

Job Summary

The Plant Engineering and Maintenance Manager will provide leadership and direction to the plant Maintenance and Project Management departments. Primary responsibilities will be leadership of the Maintenance team in planning and performing repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment within the facility and on-site CapEx Project Management. Asset and Facility Maintenance - Responsible for eliminating causes of failure and ensuring full equipment life in coordination with daily maintenance completed by operating personnel. Accountable for managing the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) budget. As an integral part of the plant leadership team, the Maintenance Manager is the Progressive Maintenance (PM) system owner which includes Maintenance Planning and Scheduling (MP&S), Preventive, Predictive, and Precision Maintenance Programs, Defect Handling (DH) and Break Down Analysis (BDA) and is accountable for the effectiveness of these systems. They will provide support to the Autonomous Maintenance Owner and Systems.

Responsibilities
  • Execute plant-specific vision and mission to ensure consistent operations, continuous improvement, and alignment with corporate vision and that all activities are conducted in a safe and controlled environment.
  • Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and maintaining Progressive Maintenance (PM) programs, including owning the elements of Breakdown Analysis (BDA) and Defect Handling (DH) with accountability to the effectiveness of the programs.
  • Monitor DH tracker for timely completion of corrective actions and completion of BDAs that are triggered.
  • Ensure health checks are in place and system is being followed and report on the metrics to the site Leadership Steering Team.
  • Lead projects that involve the redesign and installation of new processing and packaging assets, on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Assess current Progressive Maintenance Systems (Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, Planned Maintenance Optimization, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, Storeroom) and create and execute against an improvement plan that is prioritized based on business needs, has clear objectives with dates, assigned ownership, and trends key performance indicators.
  • Train and coach on Lean Continuous Improvement process and tools as it relates to Progressive Maintenance, Defect Handling, Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, Breakdown Analysis, and secondarily Autonomous Maintenance (Clean-Inspect-Lubricate, Centerline).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze equipment and line downtime data (i.e. unplanned downtime, stoppages, adjustments), define opportunities based on business need, and lead cross functional teams to identify Root Cause and Corrective Action to improve equipment and line reliability.
  • Define the skill requirements needed to maintain critical equipment, conduct a gap assessment of current resources, and develop a prioritized training plan to close the gaps with cross functional support.
  • Manage the buildings and grounds such that good manufacturing practices (GMP) are adhered to, and a professional appearance is maintained.
  • Direct the Maintenance and Engineering Team (e.g. PLC Technicians, Reliability Technicians, and Mechanics, etc.) in their roles and responsibilities to meet plant objectives in environmental, safety, quality, cost, and customer service.
  • Provide technical support for efficient troubleshooting, problem solving activities and maintenance repair to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime.
  • Collaborate with finance to create and execute a maintenance and capital (CapEx) budget to ensure that financial allocations and obligations are set, administered, and met.
  • Manage maintenance department costs within budgetary guidelines and initiate cost savings measures including capital projects.
  • Ensure that appropriate inventory levels for standard replacement parts are maintained.
  • Actively participate in Steering Team to drive employee engagement, training, and development to maximize safety, quality, manufacturing, and productivity goal attainment.
  • Plan and direct work within the department; accountable for performance management of direct reports, recognition/discipline, providing feedback, addressing complaints, and solving problems.
  • Promote a safe and positive work environment, enforcing standards for food safety and food quality reflected in SQF/BRC as well as the regulations of governing agencies such as OSHA, FDA and EPA and assuring employees are trained in these standards and comply with all requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Manufacturing or Operations Management or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ maintenance experience as a manager or supervisor in a manufacturing environment required (food industry preferred).
  • Demonstrable Project Management experience required.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working in a lean, system driven, manufacturing environment with responsibility for assessing existing maintenance processes, prioritizing identified gaps, creating an improvement plan, training, coaching, monitoring with key performance indicators, and sustaining desired performance.
  • Experience with utilizing and optimizing a CMMS (SAP experience preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, PLC’s, utilities, and boilers required.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical information and regulatory compliance guidelines and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad or similar application preferred.

  • Working knowledge of food safety and food quality standards and regulations preferred.
  • Experience with FDA and SQF/BRC a plus.
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement Programs a plus (Leadership, Organization Capability, Focused Improvement, Progressive Maintenance, Autonomous Maintenance, Early Management, Supply Chain, Quality and Safety).
