Job summary

Charter Senior Living in Durham, NC is seeking a Maintenance / Environmental Services Assistant to keep the community clean, safe, and well-maintained for residents.

You will assist with general maintenance, run basic repairs, operate community vehicles, and support transportation for residents; a valid driver’s license is required. The role offers reliable hours and opportunities to grow within our team.

Pay range is $18-$21 per hour with paid training and benefits.

Qualifications

• Previous maintenance, environmental services, facilities, transportation, or senior living experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to safely operate community transportation vehicles.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Compassionate and resident-focused attitude.
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general maintenance and repair tasks throughout the community
• Support upkeep of resident apartments, common areas, grounds, and equipment
• Assist with preventative maintenance and safety inspections
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of the community
• Support basic plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and mechanical repairs as needed
• Safely operate and maintain community vehicles and transportation equipment
• Drive the community van for resident transportation and outings as needed
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and community needs
• Communicate effectively with leadership and other departments
• Build positive relationships with residents and provide excellent customer service

Position Summary

The Maintenance / Environmental Services Assistant supports the Environmental Services Director (ESD) with the day-to-day maintenance, safety, and appearance of the community including resident apartments, common areas, grounds, mechanical systems, and transportation services.

This role helps ensure the community remains safe, clean, organized, and operational while building positive relationships with residents and supporting their overall quality of life.

The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, team-oriented, and passionate about serving seniors.
