Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join the team at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. This on-site role focuses on operating and maintaining heating, cooling, and life-safety systems to keep patients and staff safe and comfortable.

The candidate will perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, boilers, water and electrical systems, and will read blueprints to troubleshoot issues. Weekend coverage is limited to on-call needs.

Qualifications

  • 5 years experience in operation and maintenance in commercial, industrial, or institutional environments.
  • Computer competence.
  • Ridges: Minnesota 2nd Class C Engineer License (2C) or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain equipment and systems in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Repair and maintains various mechanical and electrical equipment including plumbing, controls, HVAC, refrigeration and electrical systems.
  • Operate and maintain boilers, including chemical control, seasonal maintenance, and safety.
  • Repair and maintain patient care equipment to provide a safe environment and comply with regulatory standards.
  • Read blueprints, schematics and manuals to troubleshoot and isolate problems.
  • Perform periodic preventive maintenance on fans, motors, belts, HVAC systems, steam, water, sewer, air and medical gases.
  • Document service requests and work logs accurately.
  • Rotate on-call for facility emergencies and respond to incidents.

Education

Minnesota 2nd Class C Engineer License (2C) or higher
Graduate of an accredited trade school in refrigeration or building maintenance

Job description

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our team at our Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN! This position offer 80 hours per every 2-week pay period and is benefit eligible!

The Maintenance Engineer operates and maintains the heating, cooling and life safety equipment and fixtures within the facility using acceptable work practices and following hospital and departmental guidelines to maintain a safe, comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Schedule

Day shift position with the occasional fill of 2nd shift for vacations.

One week @ 6am-2:30pm shift

3 weeks @ 7am-3:30pm

One weekend rotation every 4th weekend. Day shift only with oncall after hours.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for repairing and maintaining equipment and systems within assigned locations in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Repairs and maintains various pieces of mechanical and electrical equipment following accepted practices and procedures. These systems include plumbing, controls, HVAC refrigeration and electrical/emergency power.
  • Operate and maintain steam and hot water heating boilers, including adequate chemical control, seasonal maintenance, and safety.
  • Repairs and maintains patient care equipment to provide a safe environment for patients and comply with the standards of the various regulatory agencies
  • Repairs, maintains, adjusts, and calibrates miscellaneous portable equipment brought to the shop for repair, including but not limited to wheelchairs, carts, equipment, furniture etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and technical manuals to trouble-shoot and isolate problems
  • Gains a thorough working knowledge of the major systems within the assigned locations, and can operate them safely and efficiently and troubleshoot problems so they can be resolved with a minimum of down time and distribution of service
  • Performs periodic preventive maintenance on fans, motors, belts, HVAC systems, steam, water, sewer, air and vacuum, fire suppression, oxygen, and other medical gases.
  • Completes and turns in required documentation i.e. service requests, work logs, check lists and other documentation.
  • Performs all duties in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
  • Rotate call for facility emergencies. Triage calls to determine necessity for immediate action. Respond to site and resolve.
  • Respond to emergency, security, and disaster situations in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Understand and follow safety procedures specifically related to job duties (i.e. blood-borne pathogens, OSHA, Eye protection).
Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited trade school in refrigeration, electricity, building maintenance or another appropriate course
