Maintenance Custodian / Janitor
Full-Time - 40 Hours Per Week
Litchfield, CT 06759

ABOUT THIS POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Custodian / Janitor, this role involves custodial, general maintenance, and grounds-keeping duties for the Connecticut Junior Republic buildings and grounds in Litchfield.

1. Perform daily cleaning of residential cottages.
2. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
3. Gather and empty trash.
4. Service, clean, and supply restrooms, lavatories, and showers.
5. Dust furniture, fixtures, walls, machines, equipment, and polish metal fixtures or trimmings.
6. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
7. Follow cleaning schedules, quality control standards, and complete assigned work promptly.
8. Conduct daily building checks.
9. Perform outdoor work related to facility cleanliness such as litter pickup and sweeping steps and sidewalks.
10. Report damaged or non-working equipment to Supervisor or Facilities Manager promptly.
11. Learn and support other maintenance tasks as needed.
12. Support shoveling snow/spreading salt during winter.
13. Work overtime as necessary.
14. Maintain a documented preventative maintenance schedule to ensure smooth operation of equipment and buildings.
15. Communicate effectively and serve people from all cultural backgrounds with professionalism, respect, and fairness.
16. Foster teamwork by cooperating with others to set goals, resolve problems, and enhance program effectiveness.
17. Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
18. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory or management staff.

SCHEDULE AND RATE OF PAY:

• Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 12:00 pm, 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
• 40 hours per week
• Rate: $19.70 per hour
• Eligible for overtime pay (time and a half)

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience in general building maintenance
• Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
• Ability to understand shop service manuals
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Valid driver’s license
