Maintenance Custodian / Janitor
Full-Time - 40 Hours Per Week
Litchfield, CT 06759

ABOUT THIS POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Custodian / Janitor, you will be responsible for custodial, general maintenance, and grounds-keeping duties for the Connecticut Junior Republic buildings and grounds in Litchfield.

• Daily cleaning of residential cottages
• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
• Gather and empty trash
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms, lavatories, and showers
• Dust furniture, fixtures, walls, machines, equipment and polish metal fixtures or trimmings
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
• Follow cleaning schedules, quality control standards, and complete assigned work in a timely manner
• Conduct daily building checks
• Perform outdoor work related to facility cleanliness such as picking up litter and sweeping steps and sidewalks
• Report damaged or non-working equipment to Supervisor or Facilities Manager promptly
• Learn other maintenance tasks to provide support as needed
• Support snow shoveling and salt spreading
• Work overtime as necessary
• Maintain a documented preventative maintenance schedule to ensure smooth operation of equipment and buildings
• Communicate effectively and serve people from all cultural backgrounds with respect and professionalism
• Foster teamwork and collaborate effectively with others
• Maintain regular and consistent attendance
• Perform additional duties as requested by supervisory or management staff

SCHEDULE AND RATE OF PAY:

• Monday-Friday 7:30am-noon, 12:30pm-4pm
• 40 hours per week
• Rate of pay is $19.70 per hour
• Eligible for overtime pay (time and a half)

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma
• Experience in general building maintenance
• Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
• Ability to understand shop service manuals
• Effective time management and organization skills
• Valid driver’s license
