Job summary

Washington State University is seeking a Maintenance Custodian to independently perform custodial, maintenance and groundskeeping duties across campus facilities in Pullman, WA. Responsibilities include cleaning, painting, spackling, minor patching, and operating industrial cleaning equipment such as carpet cleaners, vacuums, pressure washers, and window-cleaning devices.

The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders as needed.

Qualifications

  • Six months experience in custodial, general or building maintenance, grounds keeping, or semi-skilled carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform custodial, maintenance and groundskeeping duties to provide a safe, clean environment.
  • Clean restrooms, classrooms, apartments, recreation rooms, offices and similar facilities.
  • Paint, spackle, and perform minor patching; operate industrial cleaning equipment (carpet cleaners, shampooers, vacuums, pressure washers, window-cleaning tools).
  • Move and transport tables, furniture, cleaning equipment, supplies and other related materials.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting up to ~50 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods, and climbing ladders as needed.

The Opportunity:

As a Maintenance Custodian, you will independently perform a variety of maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping duties to help provide a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for staff, students, tenants, and visitors. In this role, you will perform commercial cleaning, painting, spackling, and minor patching, as well as operate industrial cleaning equipment such as carpet cleaning vans, shampooers, vacuum cleaners, pressure washers, and window-cleaning equipment. You will be responsible for cleaning restrooms, classrooms, apartments, recreational rooms, offices, and similar facilities. You will also move and transport tables, furniture, cleaning equipment, supplies, and other related materials as needed. This position requires the ability to frequently bend, stoop, lift, and move items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, stand and walk continuously throughout your shift, and safely climb and work from ladders.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. Monthly Salary: $3,485 to $4,633 | Range 38 | Steps A - M Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

The ability to do required work and the ability to read and write AND six months experience in custodial, general or building maintenance, grounds keeping, or semi-skilled carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work; OR equivalent education/experience. Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
