Job summary

The City of Coral Springs is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Helper to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the upkeep and repair of city facilities. You will assist facilities maintenance workers or a skilled tradesperson in carpentry, plumbing, painting, HVAC, electrical and custodial work and perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and working knowledge of tools used in maintenance or construction.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to support various trade personnel in the performance of their work (electrician, HVAC technician, carpenter, plumber, custodian).
• Clean interior and exterior of buildings and grounds.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks (painting, minor carpentry, changing light bulbs).
• Maintain cleanliness of offices, shops, and mechanical rooms.
• Hold and carry tools and materials for technicians.
• Operate electrical and gas-powered equipment.
• Transport materials, supplies, and tools with motor vehicles.
• Perform monthly maintenance checks of buildings and grounds.
• Detail and clean facilities' fleet vehicles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance, upkeep, and repair of City facilities. Assists facilities maintenance workers or a skilled building trades person in building maintenance and repair work relevant to carpentry, plumbing, painting, HVAC, electrical and custodial trades and performs other related duties as assigned.

• Provide assistance to support various trade personnel in the performance of their work, i.e., electrician, HVAC technician, carpenter, plumber, custodian and other trades or City personnel.
• Clean interior and exterior of the buildings as well as machinery, equipment and grounds.
• Perform routine maintenance and repair work, such as painting, minor carpentry, changing light bulbs, and various other routine maintenance tasks.
• Maintain the cleanliness of office, shops, storage and mechanical rooms.
• Hold and carry tools and materials needed by technicians as they perform duties.
• Operate electrical and gas-powered powered equipment including but not limited to drills, saws, air compressors, pressure cleaners, leaf blowers and other related equipment.
• Operates motor vehicles to transport materials, supplies, and tools.
• Perform monthly maintenance checks of the building, grounds, and facilities.
• Perform cleaning and detailing of Facilities’ fleet vehicles.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

High school graduation or equivalent and working knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair or construction work. Possession of valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
