Job summary

COPE Community Services is seeking an Entry level Maintenance Assistant in Tucson, AZ. The role focuses on general maintenance of COPE facilities as well as vehicle upkeep, under supervision.

Typical hours are weekdays with a standard 8:00am–5:00pm shift. Ideal candidates have at least one year of maintenance experience, solid communication skills, and the ability to work independently while managing basic repairs and small purchases within a budget.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in general building and vehicle maintenance.
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Experience purchasing supplies with a limited budget.
  • Knowledge of basic utilities and systems (electrical, plumbing).
  • Able to interact with populations affected by mental illness or substance use.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to general maintenance requests for COPE facilities promptly and cost‑effectively.
  • Perform basic utility and system repairs or coordinate them as needed.
  • Purchase quality repair supplies in a cost‑effective manner.
  • Assist in coordinating vehicle upkeep.
  • Transport vehicles to repair shops when required.
  • Move agency programs, staff and client items as directed.
  • Clean interior and exterior areas around buildings.
  • Turnover apartments as part of property turnover.

Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Alturas - Tucson, AZ 85705Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $17.00 HourlyJob Shift: Monday - Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm)Job Category: FacilitiesUnder direct supervision of the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the general maintenance of COPE facilities, and vehicle maintenance and upkeep as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in general building and vehicle maintenance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate ability to function in the general maintenance field.
  • Knowledge and experience in purchasing supplies with limited budget.
  • General knowledge of basic utility (coolers, A/C, heaters) and systems (electrical, plumbing)
  • Some knowledge of the problems associated with mental illness and substance abuse and the ability to interact with these populations.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Respond to the general maintenance requests of COPE facilities in a timely, cost-efficient manner.
  • Responsible for basic utility and systems repair and/or coordination.
  • When requested, responsible for purchasing quality repair supplies in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Assist in the coordination of vehicle upkeep.
  • Assist in transporting vehicles to repair shops when necessary.
  • Assist in moving agency programs, staff and client personal items to and from agency property as directed.
  • Perform indoor and outdoor cleanup around the buildings.
  • Turnover apartments.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age (insurance requirement) and possess a valid AZ driver's license with a "clean" or "acceptable" driving record. An unacceptable driving record includes (but is not limited to) the following:
  • more than two [2] moving violations in the last three [3] years or;
  • more than one [1] at-fault accident within the last three [3] years or;
  • any major violation (i.e. DUI, Careless/Reckless Driving, Drag Racing, Hit and Run) within the last three [3] years.

Other driving related violations may be considered unacceptable. At time of job offer, submission of 36 month (three year) driving record from DMV will be required. These standards must be maintained throughout employment and up-to-date driving records are reviewed regularly for current employees.

Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
