Maintenance Assistant

Reports to: Environmental Service Director

Compensation: $20/hr

Hours: Full Time

In addition to assisting with the day-to-day maintenance needs of the community, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible for providing safe and dependable transportation for residents to appointments, outings, shopping trips, community events, and other scheduled destinations.

Maintenance Assistant Responsibilities

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for supporting the overall maintenance, safety, appearance, and functionality of the community. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with routine maintenance and repairs throughout resident apartments, common areas, offices, and other community spaces.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to maintenance requests, recognizing that each request directly impacts resident comfort and quality of life.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance tasks and routine inspections as assigned.
  • Help identify maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or needed repairs and report concerns appropriately.
  • Assist with apartment preparation for new resident move-ins, including minor repairs, touch-ups, installations, and other assigned tasks.
  • Support the upkeep and appearance of community grounds, entrances, common areas, and exterior spaces.
  • Assist with moving furniture, supplies, equipment, and other items as needed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, maintenance areas, and supplies in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
  • Follow all safety procedures and immediately report significant maintenance or safety concerns to community leadership.
  • Assist the Maintenance Director and community leadership with projects and other maintenance-related needs as assigned.
Transportation Responsibilities

Resident transportation is a regular responsibility of the Maintenance Assistant position. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide safe, courteous, and reliable transportation for residents to medical appointments, shopping trips, outings, community events, and other scheduled destinations.
  • Operate community vehicles safely and in accordance with Better Living policies and applicable traffic laws.
  • Assist residents entering and exiting community vehicles as appropriate while promoting dignity and independence.
  • Provide appropriate assistance with walkers, wheelchairs, mobility devices, and personal belongings.
  • Ensure residents are safely transported to and from their destinations and follow established transportation schedules and procedures.
  • Complete required vehicle safety checks and promptly report maintenance, safety, or mechanical concerns.
  • Help maintain community vehicles in a clean, organized, safe, and presentable condition.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with community staff regarding transportation schedules, delays, resident needs, or changes.
  • Demonstrate patience, professionalism, and exceptional customer service while transporting residents.
  • Serve as a positive representative of Better Living while interacting with residents, families, healthcare providers, businesses, and members of the community.
