Job summary

Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join our team for a day shift with alternating on-call weekends. You will assist in maintaining facility equipment, systems, and grounds while adhering to safety protocols and keeping accurate records.

The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, basic electrical/plumbing/HVAC knowledge, and good teamwork and communication skills. We offer competitive pay and a robust benefits package for eligible employees.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in routine maintenance tasks and repairs.
  • Inspect facility and address maintenance needs promptly.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Maintain grounds including landscaping and snow removal.
  • Document work orders and maintenance schedules using a computer system.
  • Ensure a safe, clean environment for residents and staff.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests.

We are seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join our team – day shift with on call alternating weekend schedule. You will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of our facility, equipment, and grounds. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in performing routine maintenance tasks, such as inspecting, cleaning, and repairing equipment and machinery.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify any maintenance requirements and address them promptly.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Support the maintenance team in repairing and maintaining the grounds, including landscaping, irrigation, and snow removal.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and maintenance schedules using a computer system.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure a safe and clean working environment for residents, employees and visitors.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and procedures, reporting any safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in performing preventative maintenance activities to prolong the lifespan of equipment and minimize downtime.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a maintenance or similar role is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
