POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is for 233 days plus 13 paid holidays. The typical workweek is Monday through Friday, with an expectation of no more than 40 hours per week. Hours may vary for weeks with fewer than five working days.

The Maintenance Technician provides transportation services in a school bus during field trips for children and staff. Assists the Facilities & Transportation Manager in maintaining the safety, attractiveness, and comfort of the facilities, property, and equipment in compliance with the Safe Environments standards outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards and local regulations. Ensures safe transportation for all Head Start children and supports the agency's school readiness goals. This role requires face-to-face interaction with families and children and is not eligible for telecommuting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED (or willingness to obtain GED within one year with agency assistance).
• At least two years' experience in building and grounds maintenance.
• Experience in project or property management, supervision, or leading projects.
• Strong technical skills in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, etc., with expertise in at least one area.
• Valid Utah Driver's License and a good driving record.
• Willingness to obtain a company-paid CDL certification and necessary endorsements within three months.
• Ability to become a certified Bus/CDL trainer within six months.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Some college coursework or relevant industry certifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of hand tools and skills in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs.
• Ability to perform mechanical repairs on motorized equipment.
• Physically able to lift up to 90 pounds and maintain good health.
• Strong organizational skills in diverse and remote environments.
• Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and develop solutions independently.
• Proficiency in English communication.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, community groups, and agencies.
