Job summary

Veterans of Foreign Wars seeks a Maintenance Worker I to perform intermediate maintenance on roadways, grounds, equipment and facilities. You will operate vehicles and equipment as required and learn MIOSHA safety rules to keep a hazard-free campus.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid Michigan driver's license, with a schedule that may include evenings and weekends. Prior maintenance experience is preferred but not mandatory for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year of maintenance experience; two years elsewhere acceptable.
• Valid Michigan driver's license required.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform regular physical tasks.
• Willing to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform intermediate level maintenance on roadways, grounds, equipment and facilities.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: Performs intermediate level maintenance work necessary for the upkeep, repair and renovation ofthe roadways, grounds, equipment, and facilities of the VFW National Home. Operates vehicles and equipment as required.RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly responsible to the Facilities Supervisor and Facilities Director. Responsible for learning and abiding by agency and MIOSHA safety rules and regulations. Responsible for maintaining a hazard-free, safe campus environment, maintenance area and work siteEDUCATION: High School Diploma or G.E.D. or demonstrated successful work experience in the characteristic duties.*Abilities:1. Ability to do regular squatting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds required.2. Perform the characteristic duties as outlined in the job description.3. Follow directions of supervisor.4. Solve problems where mechanical ability is necessary.5. Able to follow instructions and complete work assignments in a timely fashion with or without direct supervision.6. Able to independently perform intermediate level maintenance tasks.7. Able to instruct others in the characteristic duties of the position.8. Possess a valid Michigan drivers license.9.
