Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a capable mainframe software engineer to analyze, design, test, and maintain robust software experiences.

You will take ownership of code from development through production, collaborating with teammates and other departments to minimize customer impact and improve reliability. The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of experience with COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL and SQL on z/OS, plus CA7 scheduling, production support, and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 2–3 years of relevant experience.
• Strong COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, and SQL in a mainframe environment.
• Experience with MVS and DB2 utilities for production support.
• Proven experience providing L2/L3 production support, including batch and online applications.
• Hands‑on knowledge of CA7 scheduling tools for batch monitoring.
• Strong ability to analyze, debug, and resolve abends and data-related issues.
• Experience collaborating with development, operations and partner teams to drive fixes.
• Clear communication and incident documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide production support and monitor batch schedules.
• Coordinate changes to migrate to test regions with dev engineers.
• Own full stack by delivering production-ready code.
• Design scalable, reliable, and performant systems.
• Analyze failures and propose design changes for operational improvements.
• Make design/coding decisions with customer experience in mind.
• Incorporate feedback from code reviews to meet standards.
• Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
