Job description

Job Title: Machinist

SUMMARY: Responsible for producing precision parts by setting up, and operating CNC machines, as well as maintaining quality standards and following safety protocols.

WAGE TYPE: Hourly
FLSA Exemption: Non-exempt

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs to determine machining operations.
  2. Set up and calibrate a variety of machines, including CNC mills, lathes, and grinders, ensuring proper tooling and alignment.
  3. Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, and CMMs) to ensure parts meet tight tolerances.
  4. Optimize machine operations by adjusting feeds, speeds, and tooling for maximum efficiency.
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machining processes, equipment, or programming.
  6. Maintain equipment through routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  7. Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to refine processes and address production challenges.
  8. Adhere to and promote workplace safety standards, including PPE usage and proper handling of hazardous materials.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

  • Reports to: Team Leader

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted for the expected levels of education and experience required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Expected: High School Diploma or GED with technical training in machining or a related field.
  • Preferred: Certification in CNC machining from a recognized institution or related experience.

Communication Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and communicate effectively with team members.

Other Skills:

  • Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry, for calculating dimensions and tolerances.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to operate a variety of manual and CNC equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and handle materials up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and reaching during machining operations.
  • Comfortable working in a noisy, dusty, and high-temperature environment.
