Job Description: Machinist (Finance)

We are seeking an experienced machinist capable of independently machining parts through programming, setup, editing, and operating both CNC and manual machines. The role involves maintaining quality and safety standards, record-keeping, and equipment maintenance. The machinist will handle a wide range of assignments, using independent judgment to apply procedures to specific work situations.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with Fanuc and Mazak controls and able to move between different work centers. Our Gatan Machine Shop produces low-volume, close-tolerance parts used in scientific research, with sizes ranging from under 0.06" to 24". You will collaborate with the engineering team to improve machinability and reduce costs, working closely with programmers, engineers, and co-workers.

Daylight Position:

• Flexible start window within a 3-hour range
• Overtime and weekend work available

Key Responsibilities:

• Program, set up, and operate lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, band saws, and other powered tools to produce parts to specifications without supervision
• Troubleshoot machine issues as needed
• Produce precise work efficiently within tight tolerances
• Mentor and guide less experienced machinists, assisting in their skill development
• Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of machinery
• Select appropriate cutting tools and adjust machine settings accordingly
• Conduct first and last part inspections, as well as in-process checks
• Identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective actions
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment following 5S principles and perform basic preventative maintenance
• Adapt to changing work demands and environments

• Ability to complete projects efficiently and accurately
• Ability to follow directions from leads and supervisors

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 8-10 years of CNC machining experience or equivalent education
• Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship or a 2-year technical degree in Machine Tool Technology

• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs
• Indoor manufacturing environment
• Constant standing and walking
