An experienced machinist who can independently machine parts through programming, setting up, editing, and operating CNC and manual machines. Responsibilities include maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment. The machinist performs a full range of tasks using independent judgment, familiar with Fanuc and Mazak controls, and able to move between work centers. The Gatan Machine Shop produces low-quantity, close-tolerance parts for scientific research, with sizes ranging from under .06" to 24". Collaboration with engineering is essential to improve machinability and reduce costs. Teamwork with programmers, engineers, and colleagues is required.
