Carpenter Technology Corporation is a leading producer and distributor of premium specialty alloys, including titanium alloys, nickel and cobalt based superalloys, stainless steels, alloy steels and tool steels. We are seeking experienced and knowledgeable Machinists ready to contribute to a legacy of precision, performance, and progress.

Location and Shift

Reading, PA – Our reading site continues to be the heart of our operations and a cornerstone of our community. Rotating shifts are a requirement: typically 8‑hour shifts with a rotation of 4–5 weeks day shift, followed by one week on each back shift.

Job Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC equipment including lathes, milling machines, boring mill, 5‑axis mill and related machinery.
• Program CNC equipment using CAD/CAM (Fusion360) and DOOSAN EZ Guide.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Analyze specifications and determine machining methods, tooling requirements, and sequence of operations.
• Fabricate, modify, repair, and assemble tooling, fixtures, and machine components.
• Evaluate standard tooling and determine necessary modifications or improvements.
• Develop tooling specifications from general descriptions and create sketches or drawings when required.
• Apply knowledge of tool design, shop mathematics, and machining processes to meet production requirements.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on department equipment.
• Operate forklifts or powered hand trucks as needed.
• Use precision measuring instruments (height gauges, micrometers, calipers, pi tapes, etc.) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Inspect finished components to verify compliance with quality standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
• 3 years’ experience as a qualified Machinist.
• Experience with CNC machines preferred.
• G&M code knowledge preferred.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Familiarity with lockout/tagout and other OSHA safety standards.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
