Job summary

Innomotics is seeking a Machinist (Shop Technician) to join our Kansas City, United States facility. The role involves precision manual machining, welding, and mechanical repair of motors, generators, transformers, and rotating equipment, with an emphasis on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Experience operating manual machining equipment in an industrial repair, maintenance, or manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, boring mills, drill presses, and related equipment.
• Machine, repair, and restore shafts, bearing journals, housings, sleeves, bushings, and other mechanical components.
• Perform precision measurements using micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers, and other inspection tools.
• Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
• Perform MIG, TIG, stick, and oxy-fuel welding, including weld buildup and component restoration.
• Conduct shaft straightening, runout inspections, balancing support, and related rotating equipment repairs.
• Design or modify tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices as needed.
• Assist with disassembly, assembly, inspection, rigging, and repair of motors, generators, transformers, and other industrial equipment.
• Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas while following all safety and quality requirements.

Your Future Role

Machinist (Shop Technician) performs precision manual machining, welding, and mechanical repair of industrial motors, generators, transformers, and rotating equipment. This role requires an experienced tradesperson who can independently plan and execute complex repairs, restore worn components, interpret engineering drawings, and maintain high standards of quality and safety.

Machinist provides support to the Innomotics KCR Facility. Must become a member of the local collective bargaining unit upon hire.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

• Experience repairing motors, generators, pumps, gearboxes, or other rotating equipment.
• Experience with large manual lathes, horizontal boring mills, rotor balancing, shaft straightening, and bearing restoration.
• Familiarity with reverse engineering, custom fixture design, and industrial rigging.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical work throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely move heavier components using lifting equipment.
• Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, heat, dust, oils, and welding operations while wearing required PPE.
• Deliver high-quality workmanship and safe work practices.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Adapt to varying repair projects and shop priorities.
• Recognize issues requiring engineering review and communicate concerns effectively.

The pay range for this position is $39.38 hourly rate.
