Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Vision Engineer in Poway, CA to design and integrate precision mechanical assemblies for industrial machine vision systems. The role covers design, testing, prototype builds, validation, and manufacturing release, with emphasis on manufacturability, assembly, and long‑term performance.

You will collaborate with suppliers and internal teams, perform tolerance analysis, and create detailed documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience applying GD&T and tolerance analysis for manufacturability.
• Hands-on integration of cameras, optics, sensors, and illumination into automated equipment.
• Strong documentation of drawings, BOMs, ECOs and design records.
• Experience with sheet metal, machined parts, and aluminum extrusions.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical assemblies for machine vision systems including camera mounts, fixtures, enclosures, and alignment mechanisms.
• Support integration of vision hardware—cameras, lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, lighting, sensors—into automated equipment.
• Participate in full product lifecycle from concept to production release.
• Perform tolerance stack‑up analysis and apply GD&T for manufacturability and reliability.
• Develop and maintain engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs, ECOs).
• Troubleshoot mechanical/optical/automation issues and support root cause investigations.
• Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate components and ensure production readiness.
• Refine designs with cross‑functional teams to improve system reliability and manufacturability.
• Support prototype builds and manufacturing release processes.
• Apply DFM and DFA principles to sheet metal parts and tooling.
• Consider thermal effects to ensure stable performance.
• Manage multiple tasks and communicate across teams.
