Job summary

American Aluminum Extrusion in Roscoe, IL seeks a Machine Shop Manager to oversee safe, efficient shop operations and production scheduling. You will drive productivity, lead calibration and workflow improvements, and coordinate maintenance with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in machine shops and 3+ years in a supervisory role, with strong safety focus and CNC/CAM experience (Mastercam preferred).

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of machine shop experience.
• At least three years in a supervisory/management role.
• Strong safety commitment and ability to enforce procedures.
• Experience with CNC machining and CAD/CAM software.
• Mastercam experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Machine Shop Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and productive operation of the machine shop. This position leads, maintains quality standards, manages production schedules, and identifies opportunities to improve productivity and workflow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule machine shop operations, including job assignments and resource allocation, to meet customer requirements and delivery deadlines.
• Prepare cost estimates for tooling and finished-part machining, including milling, turning, and punching operations.
• Coordinate with other departments to prioritize work orders, resolve production issues, and optimize workflow efficiency.
• Lead, train, mentor, and coach machine shop personnel to strengthen their technical skills and overall performance.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime.
• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, quality, and equipment uptime.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong commitment to workplace safety and the ability to follow and enforce safety procedures.
• Strong technical knowledge of machining processes, equipment, tooling, and materials.
• Strong understanding of Speeds and Feeds for a variety of materials
• Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with CNC machining and CAD/CAM software; Mastercam experience is preferred.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines.

Experience Requirements

• A minimum of five years of machine shop experience.
• At least three years of experience in a supervisory or management role.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to lift and move materials or parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
