Job summary

American Aluminum Extrusion is seeking a Machine Shop Manager in Roscoe, IL to lead safe, efficient operations in a busy shop. This role directs production scheduling, quality control, and continuous improvement initiatives to meet customer deadlines and improve workflow.

The ideal candidate will bring at least five years in a machine shop with three years in supervision, strong CNC/CAD/CAM knowledge (Mastercam preferred), and a proven ability to train and coach staff while maintaining safety

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of machine shop experience.
• At least three years in a supervisory or management role.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety procedures.
• Experience with CNC machining and CAD/CAM software; Mastercam experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule machine shop operations to meet customer requirements and deadlines.
• Prepare cost estimates for tooling and finished-part machining.
• Coordinate with other departments to prioritize work orders and optimize workflow.
• Lead, train, mentor, and coach machine shop personnel.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and troubleshoot malfunctions to minimize downtime.
• Monitor KPIs for productivity, quality, and uptime.

Position Summary

The Machine Shop Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and productive operation of the machine shop. This position leads, maintains quality standards, manages production schedules, and identifies opportunities to improve productivity and workflow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule machine shop operations, including job assignments and resource allocation, to meet customer requirements and delivery deadlines.
• Prepare cost estimates for tooling and finished-part machining, including milling, turning, and punching operations.
• Coordinate with other departments to prioritize work orders, resolve production issues, and optimize workflow efficiency.
• Lead, train, mentor, and coach machine shop personnel to strengthen their technical skills and overall performance.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime.
• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, quality, and equipment uptime.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong commitment to workplace safety and the ability to follow and enforce safety procedures.
• Strong technical knowledge of machining processes, equipment, tooling, and materials.
• Strong understanding of Speeds and Feeds for a variety of materials
• Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with CNC machining and CAD/CAM software; Mastercam experience is preferred.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines.

Experience Requirements

• A minimum of five years of machine shop experience.
• At least three years of experience in a supervisory or management role.

• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to lift and move materials or parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
