Job Description - Machine Parts Inspector A - 2nd Shift (331927)

Work Performed:

1. Determine adherence to blueprint specifications and standards of workmanship, material, and finish through visual examination and measurements with precision instruments, gauges, etc., on machined parts (excluding gears and gear-type parts).
2. Make complex layouts and setups on surface plates, checking measurements to close tolerances.
3. Inspect parts made from various materials such as steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, etc., including bolts, castings, forgings, extrusions, purchased parts, brake cylinders, oleo struts, etc.
4. Determine appropriate inspection procedures, devise methods for new machine parts, and recommend improvements.
5. Assign and instruct lower grade Inspectors, checking their work for accuracy and completeness.
6. Inspect vendor-made machined parts, forgings, castings, etc., in Receiving Inspection, using layout or other inspection procedures.

Tools & Equipment Used:

• Hand and marking tools, machinist’s hand tools, precision-measuring instruments, special testing and alignment devices, and material testing equipment.

Experience & Other Requirements:

• Thirty-six months of Machine Shop practice or Machine Shop Inspection or equivalent, preferably in the aircraft industry.
